The Alabaster Jar

You may remember the story in the New Testament about the woman who poured an Alabaster jar on Jesus. I believe the alabaster jar represents the costly ointment of caring, of concern, or tenderness. This is what Jesus meant when He said, "Come, follow me!" And so we break forth the alabaster jar of love in ministering to the homeless one who wants acceptance and compassion, to the frail elder who needs comfort and consolation, to the sick child, wishing someone could just understand, to the terminally ill person, seeking strength and peace. That is what we do in caring for the community of Turning Leaf. Practicially, that may look like providing meals for someone who is ill, or visiting someone in the hospital, or taking someone to the doctor. We come to church each week to have our jar filled up so we can pour it out on those who need it through the week.
